ABOUT VALCALEPIO

La Collina is based on the fertile hills of Grumello del Monte, right in the heart of Valcalepio and it is known as “the city of wine”

Our vineyards grow in the unique and evocative hilly landscape of San Pantaleone, located at an altitude of 300-340mt above sea-level

The estate has a surface of 13 hectares, its clay-limestone soils are particularly suitable for the cultivation of renowned red grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Pinot Noir. These red grapes take 70% of the land, while the other 30% is used to grow white grapes such as Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Yellow Muscat

Come to visit us

Luigi sr. was the great-grandfather of the wine-grower who runs the family business today and whose name is the same as his ancestor. He moved from Valle Imagna to Grumello del Monte in 1830 and founded our company in the picturesque farmstead that’s still the very core of it today.

Later on, Luigi’s son and grandson, namely Andrea and Bruno, were the ones who truly gave our winery a soul full of ardent passion, respect and spirit of sacrifice for their vineyards. This very same soul was inherited by Bruno’s own son, Luigi (jr.), who is the one running the business today with his family and whose name reminds us of his great-grandfather

190 years of history embodied by 4 generations of winemakers

from the former Luigi to the current one, firmly prove how deep and strong is our bound to tradition.

We are talking about a wine-making culture born out of necessity and cultivated with mindful passion.

Today we can still call ourselves true winemakers

We are a completely family-run business and our mission is to find a balance between tradition and innovationThe goal is to preserve and transform our wines to achieve the perfect product which keeps its purity but, at the same time, aims to walk a new path thanks to innovative and peculiar vinification techniques

Luigi is the one in charge of coordinating every step of the wine production, starting from checking the grapes growing in the vineyards, going through grape harvest and product processing, till checking the final result

"La Collina doesn’t just offer products but its own history; I don’t want to come across as presumptuous but I’m quite confident that we can call our wines niche products. What makes us different is our attention to details that is the same of the ancient artisans towards their artefacts’ production and trade”

Luigi says while showing us the bottles’ new labels.

Our wines embody our personality. They are original, well-balanced, tasteful and yet strong and austere as the hills where they come from. Our endless search for the finest quality shows that our main goal is to establish our brand as one of the most high-end of Bergamo’s district
